Cult of the Singularity

The following page is a secret brief that is only available to those affiliated to your faction (or who have gained the information through other channels). It represents a significant investment of IC time and effort. Please do not copy and paste the contents to other players.

With that proviso you may feel free to communicate the information IC using your own words. Of course, your faction may not like you spreading their secrets, and if you are caught doing so you may face IC consequences.

The Computer Archives

Much of our knowledge of culture, history and what it truly means to be human is kept by the Computer in its vast data banks distributed throughout the Asimov. This information is as important as any physical part of the ship, for it is what allows us to become a civilisation that might continue the legacy created by our ancestors back on Earth. Without it, we may lose everything, and be reduced to autonomous agents, slaves to the whim of what our species was once capable of creating. This must not happen.

This involves careful and diligent upkeep on the part of the department of engineering, but even more so it involves making sure that those who seek to tamper with and maliciously interfere with Computer's data storage, must be stopped and brought to justice. It is your utmost duty as a member of the Cult of the Singularity and a guardian of our future to ensure, with the aid of Computer and the Department of Harmony if necessary, that these renegades are dealt with briskly and effectively. No saboteur must be left unpunished.

The Lost Library

Due to the past actions of those who seek to destroy us, there has been a great loss of information from the Computer's archives. It is told that the cult saw fit to keep copies of their own to prepare for just such an event, and over hundreds of years, tomes upon tomes of knowledge were compiled by hand by scholars and scribes. Once this gargantuan task was complete and all computer's files were transferred to a more concrete form, the archive was sealed off in the hope that it was never needed.

There were only a few who ever knew the location of this place, if it even exists, and they are long dead. What the cult does know is that if the room were to exist, it would have to be housed in Toroid 4, where all lost things are. It is a priority to find this place and restore the data to the Computer, but as the Toroid is usually sealed to us, this is proving to be a difficult task. Perhaps with the new ACTP recruits to hand, this lofty goal might move within our grasp.

Structure of the Cult

The cult has one supreme leader, the wise and learned Master Etemia of the Forest. He wears his signs of ageing proudly as proof that he has faithfully served humanity's best interests for longer than anyone can remember, but those who have known him longest insist that he looked no different when they were first introduced to him. He is rumoured to have spent many years of meditation in the Oxygen Forest and become one with the ship itself. It is also claimed that he has spent some time in Toroid 3, which draws gasps of awe from those new to the cult, and the occasional snort of derision from those too ignorant to believe such a thing is possible. He is extremely modest and has never talked about this, however, and will fall silent about it if asked.

There are several grand adepts, who are experienced, long serving members of the cult, experienced in the ways of preservation and conversant with the knowledge that has been preserved. They have different, though often overlapping roles, and are usually the people to consult with in all matters related to the cult.

You might come across Grand Adept Uxnor, who is in charge of well-being within the organisation, and making new members feel settled in and productive. Grand Adept Ohara is the chief archivist and can be consulted with most matters regarding the discovery and safekeeping of information. There are several others, but they are much less visible, even for other members.

The Corrupt Council

The Children of Earth have a splinter group known as the Council of Independence, who dedicate themselves to disconnecting various vital parts of the Ship, including—most unconscionably—the erasing of data from the memory banks.

We cannot stand directly against the Children of Earth and their Council, so instead it has been decided that they must be infiltrated and brought down from the inside. The Cult is prepared to reward handsomely anyone who can supply us with the information needed to end their meddling once and for all.
